Size - How BIG is it an issue for you? (continued)
With babies, there is considerable variation of the growth rates of individuals. Some begin to get off their hands and needs and begin to attempt walking before they have reached their first birthday. Others take somewhat longer. When this exciting event occurs, we generally describe them "toddlers", on account of the toddling movement that it produces. But, as with babies, designers and manufacturers cannot design precise sizes for each individual toddler. And so the general concensus is that toddler clothes are sized for the ages of 12 months to 36 months. This seems to work well and we hope that it suits your little one.
12-18 Months
It used to be that babies had little else other than baby grows to wear. But nowadays you will have been presented with a wide selection of tops, trousers, dresses and much more. And so the next stage of youngsters' clothing selections, from sizes 12 months and upwards, will give you more designs and colours to choose from, with specific characters and designs, which will make a great fit for their wardrobe.
On average, 25 to 28 lbs is the weight for this age range, while height can reach 32 inches, and sometimes a little bit beyond, especially for boys.
18-36 Months
At the age of between 18 and 36 months, toddlers will have a good grasp of what they like and don't like in terms of dress sense. Parents will be able to identify their likes, dislikes and take them on board when choosing the right clothes – again, certain cartoon characters from film and TV are likely to go down well.
Comfort is again the key. Your child will be up and walking, and also running(!), so pick out a durable and comfortable choice. The average weight at 36 months we suggest is around 31 lbs for girls and 32 lbs for boys, with height being around 37 inches for girls and 38 inches boys.
Five Baby Clothes Trends For 2024
Sustainable and Eco-Friendly Clothing
In the past, sustainable clothes were the province of lentil-eating hippies and weren't a common presence in your average shop.
However, with greater awareness of the environment, the tide has turned. It seems that many baby and toddler clothing manufacturers, from independents to designer brands, have embraced using sustainable, recyclable materials for modern day clothes. And with continued interest in keeping the planet safe, it's a fair bet that this will remain a popular trend in years to come.
Subtle Shades
Whilst the traditional pink and sky blue colours are still popular, coming something a bit more subdued. Pastel shades in particular are proving to be a big draw, with a number of factors working in this trend's favour. Parents don't have to worry about whether their newborn will be a boy or a girl, as this type of trend is suitable for both.
That's not to say that it's purely blacks, whites and greys in vogue. Lighter shades of blue and lemon are especially popular.
Past Present
Just like TV and music, more consumers are looking to the past for inspiration when it comes to baby clothes.
Classic designs from the '60s, '70s and '80s, believe it or not, are making a comeback in terms of patterns and knitted styles. Think florals, polka dots, chequered designs, that sort of thing. Plus, some of the kids' telly from yesteryear are still reaching out to today's babies.
This Time It's Personal
Adding the personal touch means that baby and toddler wear isn't just comfortable and practical, but also unique. Thanks to advancements in technology, adding your own spin on baby clothes is a lot simpler. You can add the name of your litte one, a personalised picture or motif, or even a T-shirt or jumper bearing a special image – maybe a family portrait or the new arrival!
Technology
It's a new trend, but we think this could catch on in the future. It's now possible for baby clothes to feature technological facets that can do all sorts of things when it comes to monitoring your newborn's health – for example, some can monitor heartbeat and oxygen rate, providing extra peace of mind for parents.
